Eating breakfast is just as important as getting a good night’s sleep. If you want to create positive habits in your life, you need energy and a focused mind. Pay attention to how you feel after you eat a healthy breakfast consisting of natural foods, vs. eating a heavy meal filled with loaded preservatives and fillers, vs. eating no breakfast at all. Do you notice a difference in your energy level? Your body will tell you for sure. We all have different body types, but your stomach will let you know if what you ate agrees with you or not.
Your body needs you to eat something within your first hour of waking up. The word “breakfast” literally means you “break” the “fast” that your body has been on all night long. And so eating a healthy breakfast goes without saying. But why do you not do this? Don’t have enough time? Trying to lose weight so you don’t eat breakfast?
As far as saying you don’t have enough time, you just have to make time. It’s simple as that. As far as losing weight, studies show when you eat a healthy breakfast, it helps you from overeating later in the day and boosts your metabolism. People who skip breakfast tend to weigh more than those who eat a morning meal. Eating a healthy breakfast is linked to having a better mood and starting the day off in a positive way. Light bulb moment…..this is about how you think and care about yourself.
There’s tons of recipes out there for quick and simple breakfasts like, “Make it in a mug”(cook breakfast in your microwave with delicious egg mug recipes), “Make-ahead recipes”(cook once and have breakfast ready all week), or “Overnight oatmeal”(make your oatmeal recipe and put the bowl/ jar in the fridge overnight). Check online for recipes. Also, portion control is very important, so be mindful of that.
A few suggestions for healthy breakfasts: fruit, oatmeal, smoothie bowls, yogurt with granola (I like to have some crunch in my breakfast meal), muesli, smoothie drink, cereal (hot or cold), egg sandwich……remember every recipe depends on the healthy ingredients you use, so search “healthy breakfast recipes” for detailed morning meal recipes.
Here’s some more easy and healthy tips for breakfast:
- Buy fresh fruits and keep them handy at all times.
- Stock your cabinets with healthy cereals.
- Have healthy bars and nuts handy during the times you may be running late.
The choices you make today to invest in your health will benefit you enormously down the road. For those of you already doing this, fantastic! For those of you who need some support…..start with small steps by eating healthy on the weekends, or start eating healthy every other day on the weekdays. Progress not perfection.
The best advice I can give to you about making healthy breakfast choices is to keep healthy items handy. Keep them in your kitchen cabinet or counters, in your car, or at your desk. You are less likely to reach for those unhealthy choices when you don’t see them.
“The way you eat is inseparable from your core beliefs about being alive. Your relationship with food is an exact mirror of your feelings about love, fear, anger, meaning, and transformation.”
